November is Military Family Appreciation Month. Throughout the month, veterans and their families are honored across the 54 states and territories. Military families are dedicated and resilient and serve alongside the men and women of the Armed Forces. When you thank a veteran for their service in November, please take a few moments to extend your gratitude to their family members as well.
For many of our veterans, service does not end with a contract or obligation date. These veterans join the ranks of our dedicated Family Readiness and Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve volunteer corps. The Wisconsin National Guard Volunteer Corps is comprised not only of veterans, retirees, and community partners but also military spouses, friends, parents, and other relatives. To honor military families, the Service Member Support Division held their first “Focus on Family Readiness and Employment” event.
The Focus on Families Readiness and Employment Event was comprised of family readiness volunteer training, a mini job fair, as well as a family information and resource fair. Volunteers were introduced to the statewide Military Spouse Employment and Empowerment Zone (MSEEZ) initiatives in Wisconsin. Since Wisconsin is the first Guard and Reserve MSEEZ, the volunteers provided valuable insight on how to advocate for military families and connect employees to a unique talent pool. Local employers spoke to our volunteer team and educated them on how to capture the diverse and desirable skills of volunteerism and support to a Service member.
Service and family members were invited to attend a mini job fair and attend sessions of Linkedin, Resume writing, interview skills, and more. We ended our day with a recognition ceremony for our Military Families. Check out our list of employment opportunities and resources by clicking here.
