LHI & WI National Guard Partner Conduct Employment Workshop

Army Sgt Casey Kautzmann shows participants a job seekers LinkedIn Profile

Career Prep & Hiring Event for Military Personnel and their Families

Onalaska, WI, January 27, 2018 – LHI and Wisconsin National Guard held an employment workshop at the Armed Forces Reserve Center in Onalaska. The event gave service members of all branches, retirees, veterans, and family members an opportunity to learn advanced, behavioral interviewing skills, how to build a polished resume, and create an effective LinkedIn profile.

Workshop participants visited recruiting booths and met with LHI personnel who are, themselves, former armed forces service members. They shared their experience of working for LHI and spoke about career opportunities at the veteran-friendly company.  Aleesha Wahl, a Recruitment Specialist for LHI recruiter, coached the group on “How to Rock Your Interview” using the “STAR” method for interviewing.

I learned a lot about what to ask in an interview and what to look for when being interviewed.” Private First Class Austin Berberich, Horizontal Construction Engineer with the Wisconsin Army National Guard.

Sergeant Casey Kautzmann, Employment Assistance Coordinator for the Wisconsin National Guard, led participants through classes on writing a resume and building a LinkedIn profile. She showed different styles of resumes identifying situations that would be ideal for using each. Kautzmann showed the participants an example of a LinkedIn profile for someone that was actively seeking employment. She was careful to point out tips and tricks that will improve the job seekers chances of appearing in recruiter searches.

This was well organized event that produced great information for transitioning service members and their spouses.  Instructors and guest speakers did a phenomenal job.” Sergeant First Class Gordon G. Smith II, Operations Manager, U. S. Army.

Kautzmann and her team are planning similar employment events in Appleton and Chippewa Falls later this year. Their goal is to host employment related workshops on a quarterly basis.

The Wisconsin National Guard Service Member Support Division provides military members, families, retirees, organizations, and communities with information and communication to ensure readiness and resilience to accomplish the mission and transition back to family and civilian roles.
