If you have been effected by the latest winter storm you may qualify for financial assistance. More details for Soldiers and Airmen can be found below and remember the J9-Service Member Support Directorate stands ready to assist you and your family members 24/7. Air Force Aid Society (AFAS)Emergency financial assistance is available for Airmen affected by the latest cold weather.  Effectively immediately, AFAS will provide up to a $500.00 grant for Airmen/Guardians affected by the situation.  The grant can cover such things as short-term hotel stays, additional food needs, other basic living expenses or emergency needs in which no resources are available (receipts or bills are required). Eligible members include:· Active duty Air Force members,  Air National Guard or Air Force Reserve personnel on extended active duty over 15 days under Title 10, USC (assistance is limited to emergencies incidental to, or resulting from applicant’s active duty tour), Air National Guard personnel on Title 32 USC 502(f) Full-Time Active Guard Reserve (ANG) orders (Initial & Continuation Tour Only) To apply, contact your closest active duty installation.  If you’re located more than 50 miles from any base, fort, or post, call the American Red Cross at 1-877-272-7337. Retirees and widow/widows are currently not eligible but could be at a later date after demand is determined.    

Army Emergency Relief (AER)Financial assistance is available for Soldiers affected by winter storm Uri.  To apply, visit your nearest AER office.  If an office is inaccessible or further than 50 miles away, call the American Red Cross at 1-877-272-7337 as they are authorized to process your request. Eligible members include:  Active Duty Soldiers (& Family), Retired Soldiers (Longevity or Medically) (& Family), Surviving Spouses & Children, Title 10 ARNG & USAR activated for more than 30 consecutive days (& Family), Title 10, Title 32, or TPU ARNG & USAR not activated or activated for less than 30 consecutive days (& Family), Title 10, Title 32, or TPU ARNG & USAR activated in response to winter storms (& Family).
