Concurrent receipt (double dipping) of VA compensation benefits and drill pay is prohibited by 10 USC 12316.  On the days that a reservist or National Guardsmen performs IDT drill or periods of active duty, to include deployment, the Service member must elect which type of payment to receive.    Look for a notice in the mail from November to December from the regional VA Office.  If the Service member fails to waive one type of payment, a debt is incurred and will be recouped through the Department of Veteran’s Affairs Debt Management Center.

If you are preparing for a deployment, it is very important to waive VA disability compensation prior to starting active duty.  For more information or assistance, contact Mr. Jeff Unger at 608-242-3727 or the Solider & Family Readiness Team at 1-800-292-9464 option 1.
