The Service Member Support Division (SMSD) loves our volunteers. Throughout the year, there are many opportunities to volunteer for one hour or for a year and even more. Volunteers currently support Service members, military family, military youth, units, and employers across the state. Our volunteers serve as the communication link between the unit commander and military families ensuring that Service members and military families are informed, prepared, and empowered to successfully manage their quality of life and the unique challenges of the military life-style.
Each year, SMSD actively recruits volunteers. Volunteer are needed to support family readiness, child and youth programs, Badger Youth Camp, and educating Service members and employers on the benefits of recruiting members of the Armed Forces into their organization, or assisting Service members with employment issues and concerns related to military deployment. With the contributions of our 250-member volunteer forces, unit commanders may shift their focus to operational readiness and supporting both state and federal missions.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please complete the short questionnaire located at Volunteer Application. For more information on our volunteer opportunities, please contact our Senior Family Readiness Support Assistant at 608-242-3961 or by email at SMSD General Mailbox
Throughout the year, there are also opportunities to recognize the contributions of our volunteers and units that excel within their family readiness program and contribute significantly to the resiliency of their Service Members and their families. Unit commanders, military personnel, volunteers, community partners, and Service members have the opportunity to recognize volunteer contributions at the federal, state, and local level throughout the year.
